Apprentice Quarters
The Apprentice Quarters of the Harper Craft remain as simple as any
of the other rooms. This spacious chamber is sparse and
almost void of decorations. Only a student scroll or two decorate
the chamber. Walls are spaced to leave just enough room
to comfortably hold several large bunks. Located within the
interior Crom Hold. Several closed doors lead to Journeyman sleeping
chambers ( to keep an eye on the apprentices). Though the furniture is
of practical make, every one of the Apprentices' needs have
been accounted for. Two tiered beds, composed of one bed resting
above the other through ingenious craftwork, take up the nearer
corners. Twin desks of similar, practical, design lie
off toward the furthest areas. Drawers filled with quill,
hide, and books are set aside for the residents. A Huge ceiling fan slowly
rotates to circulate the air. Beside the fan is a grilled
air vent. Often a piece of an apprentice's garment could be seen
hanging from the fan.
Perched somewhere up high, you see Trouble, Frosty, Bourbon, and Bluesteel.
You see Storage, Songbook, a jar of rose essence, Harp, Kasan's Messy
Cot, Lio's Cot, Kayrelen's Kot, Resa's Cozy Cot, and Harpie's
Nest here.
Avaly and Liona are here.
From here you can go:
Main Hall
Resa pads in with a sleeping Marion in her arms. She tucks the little girl into her cot after removing her shoes and socks.
Hynavu has arrived.
Hynavu comes home.
Tenya knocks on the door softly before she comes in, "Is everybody decent?" She's accidently walked in on more than one, slightly less than dressed apprentice, and she /really/ doesn't care to make that mistake again.
Resa glances up from where she sits at her desk, a glance going to her cot and the small sleeping form in it. Eyes wide, she gasps at Hynavu!
Avaly stops her humming and glances up from her cot and over to Resa and Hyn wondering what they plan to say to get out of this one.
Hynavu jumps to his feet, moving over to her cot and trying to block the view. "I think if I work from this angle instead ..."
Marion yawns hearing all the gasping and talking, and stretches rubbing her eyes.
Resa oh-nos... and scrables up out of her chair, walking towards her cot also. Maybe if both Hyn and her stand in front, Tenya won't notice.. yeah.. that's it.
Avaly holds in a giggle and goes back to humming and idily wonders outloud, "Anyone going to tell her it's ok to come in?"
Marion looks around, owl-eyed, wondering what's going on.
It wouldn't do to make the Harper Master wait out in the hall.
"Rees? Hine?" Marion asks quietly. SHe has an instinct for danger it seems. "Wha's goin' on?"
Hynavu shoots a wide-eyed look at Resa. What do they do? "It's just, ah ..." His quick sense of explanations is just not there, not that it existed in the first place.
Tenya slips in and figures that everything is okay, "Resa." she pulls a small note out of her pocket, "Your mother sent you a note.." she raises an eyebrow as she hears a soft, young voice, "Who's that? Do we have a new apprentice?" she steps a little closer, trying to peek around the kids.
Resa turns, holding a finger to her lips, "Just be quiet for a moment ok Marion?" She turns back around, eyes still wide as she takes the note for Tenya.
Avaly goes back to working on her song trying to stay out of the other conversation as much as possible since she has no part in any of it.
Marion noddles, wide-eyed at Rees.
Resa blinks, and moves, standing in front of Tenya, Yep, she meant to do that.
Kayrelen isn't a kid, she's just sitting on her cot idly scribbling out maps for her other craft. Tenya gets a pale gaze of gold as the pencil she is using is chewed on and pushed behind her ear. "Hello Master Tenya." She had nothing to do with this, really!
Hynavu nods pleasantly. "Good day, Master Tenya ..." Deferent, but then he always is.
Marion looks around, and suddenly pulls the covers over her head!
Resa stammers, "Hmm, thank you Master Tenya.. " She pretends she didn't hear anything and tries to puch that thought off on Tenya as well.
Tenya smiles softly and tilts her head in respect, "Good day, everyone." she motions off to the side, "Could you two please move?" she looks to Resa and Hyanvu, "What are you hiding, kids?"
Resa blushes, shaking her head, "N..nothing Master Tenya.. " She takes a tiny step to the side. She moved! Really she did!
Marion shivers under her blanket, hearing Tenya coming.
Hynavu shuffles in the same direction as Resa. "Not a thing. Just trying to get good angles to draw from ..."
Tenya has been at this too long to be fooled, "Well..let me see what you're drawing." she puts her hand on Hynavu's shoulder and pushes him gently but firmly to the side, "Excuse me, please."
Avaly continues to hum idily scratching something on her hide every few notes continuing to stay as far out of the other conversation as possible.
Marion peeking out of the covers, she sees Tenya push Hine! She /pushed/ Hine!
Resa looks at Hyn as Tenya steps around him. Turning, she tries to sit on the bed, hiding Marion's form as she straightens up covers and pillows and other things on her bed. Too late, she notices Marion's little boots on the floor. She tries kicking them under the cot, hoping they haven't been seen.
Marion is now trembling with anger...she /pushed/ /her/ Hine!!
Hynavu shuffles awkwardly. "Was there anything in particular you wanted, Tenya?" Maybe, maybe, he'll catch her attention ...
Marion stands up suddenly pushing back the blanket and screeching, "You pushed /my/ Hine!!!" and managing to look /very/ angry.
Resa blinks, then sighs as Marion hops up. It's all over now... she just knows it! Standing, she tries to calm the little girl down, hands patpating her shoulders. "It's ok Marion... shhhh... " How can anyone look more guilty than Resa at this moment?
Marion doesn't take her eyes of Tenya, but jumps down and away from Resa and walks right up to Tenla and says, "You leave my Hine -alone-!!"
The harper dramatically bows to Marion, "I apologize, m'lady...what can I do to earn your forgiveness for my actions?"
Tenya stands fully and turns to Hynavu, "Did I hurt you?" she asks softly, looking at his arm where she pushed him, "I'm sorry."
Hynavu shakes his head, looking bewildered. "I, ah ... no, ma'am, you didn't," he says softly, putting a little strength into it for Marion's benefit.
Marion puts her hands on her hips with her legs spread, "You don't push my Hine!"
Resa steps closer, shaking her head, "No one was hurt Marion... Master Tenya didn't push him hard." She attempts again to calm the little girl.
Marion looks at Resa, then at Tenya, "Who're you?" she asks suspiciously.
Tenya admits to herself that she's getting a little edgy. She didn't raise her own daughter, so she really doesn't know how to deal with little children. She holds her hand out to Marion, "What do I have to do, then?"
Marion backs away from the outstretched hand. "Who're you?" she asks again.
Resa makes introductions, "Marion, this is Master Tenya. She's a teacher here..."
Marion looks at Resa, then at Tenya, "Tena." then she nods at her and sits down on the cot, keeping a close eye on Tenya, "Don't push Hine /or/ Rees-fish!"
Hynavu shakes his head a bit. "It's okay, Marion ..." What
else is there to say? He can't think of any handy excuse
for her being here ...
Tenya shakes her head slightly, "I won't...I promise." she leans down
and puts her hands on her knees for balance, "What is your
name, wee one?"
Resa sighs, and lets Marion speak as she chews on her lip trying to come up with a good excuse.
Marion looks at Tenya and crosses her arms, "Mawon!"
Tenya raises an eyebrow slightly and looks to Resa, "Mawon?"
Marion nods, "Mawon."
:Resa smiles, whispering, "Marion.." to Tenya.
Hynavu nods. "That's her name, ma'am." He's trying to be supportive. Really.
Tenya occasionally has to pacify a child she's teaching, so she carries a few small pieces of candy with you, "Well met, Marion." she plucks one of the pieces out of her other pocket and holds it out to her, "Peace offering?"
Marion looks up at Resa, "Rees-fish? Tena gonna take me 'way?" she hasn't noticed the candy yet...
Resa is still trying to come up with a good excuse as to who and why Marion is here, knowing that the question will soon be asked. Hearing Marion's question she kneels down, hugging the small girl, unsure just how to answer yet.
Marion hugs back and, not getting an answer from Resa, she looks at Tenya, with big eyes. "Tenna? You gonna take me 'way?"
Hynavu bites his lip as he studies Tenya's face. He shakes his head at her wordlessly.
Tenya keeps the hand out, but sits on the edge of the bed, "I don't see any reason to do that just yet, but why are you here?" she looks around the room, "Where are your parents?
Resa pulls back from Marion, looking to Tenya. Her eyes are bright with tears as she knows what she did was perhaps, wrong? "We don't know Master Tenya... but... well... things just don't sound right!" The last is said with passion, for she truely feels something isn't right about Marion's situation.
Marion looks at Tenya, "Mama and Papa go Byebye!"
Tenya mmms softly and pats the bed next to her, "Sit down, Marion? And tell me how you came to be here?"
Marion sits on the bed, "Tenna, Mama and papa bring me to road, and go Byebye! And Am and siv come and take me through the bad black place, but Siv took care of me and brought me to Rees-fish and Hine!" she grins up at them, "And they take care of me!"
Hynavu settles down next on a cot opposite, listening silently. His gaze searches out Resa, his look helpless. "She's said a lot of things that just don't sound good, Tenya," he murmurs.
Tenya looks around the room again, then to Hynavu and Resa, "What do you do while they're in classes?"
Resa nods, meeting Hyn's gaze, "Aye, there were a few times in the beginning that she cowered like we were gonna hit her.." is whispered softly.
Mrion looks up at Rees, "But you don't!" and her eyes go wide, "Don't take me 'way tenna!" sniffsniff
Tenya looks mildly surprised, "Take you away when you have nowhere to go?" she shakes her head, "I wouldn't do that." her hand goes towards Marion's hair (probably just an innate motherly reaction) to pet it if she'll let her, "But I would think you need someone to look after you more than just between classes."
Resa shakes her head, hugging the little girl again, "No... and I won't hit you Marion!" She looks up to Tenya, in surprise. "Well... the other appies have been helping.. though I guess me and Hyn take more of the responsibilities..."
Hynavu gazes up sharply, eyes full of hope. "It hasn't been that difficult," he says weakly, but at the same time he clearly hopes for the master harper to come up with something brilliant.
Marion looks up at Tenya, then Resa, then Hynavu, and grins, "No! You don't hit!" and then she scowls..."But did the mad-lady hit girls?" she asks of Hynavu.
Resa blinks, at first a little confused, then remembering, "Hmm... no Marion... she hasn't."
Marion grins and giggles! "Oh good!!!"
Hynavu shakes his head. "Nope ... and she's never going to, Marion," he adds. rs
Marion nods. "Yes! Hine won't let her!"
Resa looks over Marion's head to explain to Tenya, "The first day Master Veili came through the courtyard extrememly mad, looking for a couple of runaways. She scared Marion terribly..."
Marion looks at Tenya, adding to the story, "Siv took care a' me!"
Tenya leans back slightly and closes her eyes, "Well, the situation can't stay like this, most definately...you two aren't old enough to care for a child."
Resa nods to the Master, head bowing.
Hynavu bites his lip. "But we can help, surely?"
Tenya nods slightly, "Of course. But she must stay in the hall..with a proper parent figure." she looks down at Marion, "Have you met any adults - non apprentices - that you've taken a fancy to?"
Marion looks at Tenya, worried, "But Hine and Rees-fish took care of me!!"
Resa hmms, shaking her head to Tenya, "Not really Master Tenya. We... uh... were keeping her away from the Jman and Masters." Somehow, she thinks Tenya will understand why...
Tenya nods slightly, "I know, Marion, but eventually Hine and Rees-fish are going to have to go away and be posted somewhere else - most apprentices do. And when that happens, I don't want you to be dragged along - out of your home."
Marion goggles and sniffs, "But I don't /want/ Rees-fish and Hine ta leave me!"
Resa shakes her head, "We'll never really leave you Marion... but Master Tenya /does/ have a point. " She looks to the Master for help!
Marion looks at Tenya and sniffs, then hugs Resa, burying her face in the front of her shirt.
Hynavu bites his lip. "Maybe she could meet some of them over the next few days, Tenya? Surely it won't hurt ..." He looks uncertain.
Tenya considers, tapping her chin lightly, "I'm tempted to take her in, but I'm probably less avaliable than you two."
Resa wraps her arms around Marion, holding the girl close in her lap, "Aye, we /could/ introduce her around to the others... and help explain things to her later...." She looks hopeful though... the finding out doesn't seem to be as bad as she thought it would be!
Hynavu nods a bit. "We can always be here for her to help her adjust..."
Resa nods, still holding Marion in her arms.
Tenya nods ever so slightly, "Why doesn't she stay here for another sevenday or so. Then, we can decide where to go from there."
Hynavu lets out all his breath at once. "Thank you, Master Tenya." Were he a more demonstrative boy, he'd hug her.
Trouble wakes up from his nap.
Marion is a very demonstrative girl evidently. She suddenly goes over at hugs Tenya, "Tankoo Tenna!"
Resa smiles finally, letting out the breath she'd been unconsciously holding. "Thank you Tenya... "
Tenya laughs softly and hugs the girl gently, "You're welcome, Marion. But it's Ten-ya. Tenya. Say it for me, please?"
Marion looks up at Tenya, baffled. "Ten-na?"
Tenya shakes her head, this time emphasizing the 'ya'. "Ten /ya./"
Marion looks up at Tenya and tries again, this time bobbing her head with each syllable in an effort to get it right, "/ten//na!/"
"One more time." she holds out the piece of candy again as encouragement,"Ten yah."
Marion backs off from Tenya, head pointed at her feet, but eyes at Tenya, making them seem huge. "Ten-/NA/"
Hynavu chuckles softly as he watches the pair, with a small shake of his head. He glances over, trying to catch Resa's eyes.
Tenya begins to wonder if this girl has a hearing problem, "Good enough, we'll continue another day." she holds the candy out so she can take it freely.
Liona, who has been listening to the last half of the conversation from her cot, giggles and wonders how much time Tenya's spent with little kids....
Resa looks over at Hyn, a smile covering her lips. This little girl is a character!
Marion grins, and takes the candy, popping it into her mouth and giggling, huggint Tenya again.
Tenya yawns softly and stands after returning the hug, "Well...do you have your own cot, Marion?"
Marion looks around, and points at Resa's cot. "I sweep there!"
Resa smiles, "She does sleep with me... it's ok.. I really don't mind.."
Tenya mms softly, "That's fair for now, but she can have her own cot if she pleases." she looks towards the door, "I'm sorry, but I really should go now." she smiles softly, "I've done what I needed to do."
Marion looks around the room, and grins, "Hine? Where's the flitters?"
Resa nods, "Thank you Master Tenya... thank you." She laughs at Marion, raring and ready to go again it seems!
Hynavu bows his head. "And my thanks, as well." He smiles at Marion ... and before he can answer, two cheeps echo him from beneath either elbow.
Tenya walks toward Harper's Area.
Marion grins, and immediately starts her courting of them, "Pretty flitters want a scritch? I'll scritch your itches!"
Do they need to be told twice? The twin forms that are Duskwing and Eirekki scuttle out of their hiding places, taking briefly to the air before they land on either side of Marion like an adoring puppy and an actor pretending to be an adoring puppy, respectively.
Eirekki and Duskwing wriggle up against her, while Hynavu shakes his head. "I really should do something about those two, shouldn't I?"
Trouble -was- snoring rather nicely in the rafters above, though he finally yawns and stretches out, undraping his wing from covering his head as he glances down to those gathered below. Feh...people bothering his sleep again.
Resa laughs flopping down on her cot. "Wheeewwww... I think I nearly died there!" Her glance goes to Hyn, "Can you believe it? We didn't get in trouble! " She ponders something for a moment, "Unless... it comes later?
Marion grins and starts scritching the two little flitters. "Aw, /pretty/ flitters. /sweet/ flitter!" she looks up at Trouble, "Oh it's flitter-hat! Do you want a scritch too flitter-hat?"
Trouble yawns widely, showing his many tiny teeth in the process, and probably last night's dinner too. He glances down at Marion in a bit of disinterest for the moment. Hey you already -got- two flits....and I don't like to share.
Hynavu grins broadly at Resa. "No, I don't think so," he says in a giddy tone.
Resa looks /very/ relieved! "I don't think so either..." She looks up, sees Trouble and groans.
Marion giggles up at Trouble, "Silly flitter!" then goes back to scritching her two...if Trouble doesn't want a scritch, Trouble doesn't want a scritch.
Ah yes, speaking of Trouble....it's coming later allright. In fact, right now...right in Resa's lap, as the brown moves from his perch and half glides, half parachutes right down into the correct spot, plunking into place without any sort of invitation. Attention please.
Resa looks down at the brown in her lap, shakes her head, and does as he commands. Her hand scritches his head gently, getting around the headknobs and all those other itchy places.
Hynavu leans back with a sorrowful sigh. "And I here I am ... bereft of flitters ..."
Marion looks at Hine, "Whas berift?" she says, looking confused.
Frosty chirps from the rafters. He glares at Trouble. She's mine! then, he pretends indifference. Hmmph! I'll just stay here then!
Hynavu shakes his head. "Just means I don't have any flitters to scritch, Marion. But I'll be fine." He smiles at her wryly.
Marion looks up at Frosty and giggles, "Another flitter!"
Trouble tilts his head ever so slightly, taking the attention in due stride. If he could stick his tongue out at Frosty right now he would. Not necessarily a true bully to the core, but definetely one to push around to get what he wants, he simply remains indifferent to the other's distress. You want her back? Make me leave.
Marion looks at Hine, worried, then up at Frosty and her face lights up, "Fwosty? You wanna scritch? Hine'll scritch your itches!" she gives her biggest smile.
Frosty just pretends he doesn't see anyone. Cold shoulder anyone?
Resa chuckles, and continues to scritch Trouble. A glance is given to the blue, wondering how he's gonna react.
Marion pouts at Frosty, "Fwosty! Tha's not nice!" and continues scritching Duskwing and Eirekki, "Hine wants a flitter to scritch too! And don't you have itches?"
Trouble tilts over just a bit, tipping up his wing to keep right on getting those spots taken care of. Ahhhh, much better. Another smug look is tossed in Frosty's direction, before he proceeds to sit up fully in Resa's lap like he owned her.
Marion yawns and leans back against the nearest cot smiling and scritching firelizards.
Hynavu smiles wryly. Well, if his hands aren't occupied, there's something very predictable he can do with them ... "Eirekki, you're now the model for a bovine," he informs the bronze, and gets an indignant squawk in answer.
Frosty decides to glide from the rafter, landing on the other side of Resa. Tilting his head up, he gives her a low creel. Hey, you're mine!
Marion giggles, "Eirekki don't look like a bovine!"Marion looks over at Frosty, Trouble, and Resa, and picking up Eirekki and Duskwing carefully, she goes to sit on the cot, where she can scritch Frosty as well.
Trouble tilts his head in Frosty's direction and gives a small snort, not about to give up his place just yet.
.Resa just shakes her head at Frosty, though she does scritch him with her other hand.
Marion giggles! She's surrounded by flitters! Just the way she wants it to be!
Frosty tries to look all pitiful, but how can you when someone is getting a bothersome itch?
Trouble squawks once at Resa, hopping up and down in her lap as she turns to Frosty with her free hand. Heyheyhey! You're forgetting the -important- one here!
Hynavu rolls his eyes. "On second thought ..." he murmurs to himself, looking amused.
Marion looks at Trouble, "Flitter-hat!! Tha's not nice!"
Resa laughs at both flits. "Hey now... I'm still scritching you Trouble!"
Frosty smirks, his plan is working! He tries that pitiful look again. See me? I'm yours! Doncha love me?!?
Trouble hrmphs, flicking his tail once as the game quickly grows pointless. He gives a last squawk, before rising into the air with a flap of his wings, and proceeding to fly right over Frosty in the process. Much like he does to Tenor all the time, the brown snaps his tail forward and proceeds to give the little blue a swat with his tail in passing.
Eirekki chirps sleepily to Marion. Silly flitters, arguing over the big humans ...
Marion screeches. "Flitter-hat! Don't do that!" she turns to Rees, tears filling her eyes, "Theysa fightin Rees-fish!"
Frosty glares at Trouble, snapping at his tail as he flies over. Hmmph! But, see there, she's mine! With that, the blue crawls into Resa's lap, chittering softly.
Resa laughs, shaking her head, "Nah.. it's ok Marion. Sometimes they'll do that. They never really hurt each other. "
Marion sniffs and goes back to petting Eirekki, only letting one single tear make it's way down her cheek, "Fwosty! Twouble! Don't be fightin! It's not nice."
Frosty turns to Marion. He's sorry! It was all his fault!
Frosty meant Trouble's fault! Yeah, that pesky brown!
Marion scritches Frosty, seeming to understand and say back, "That Trouble can be pesky!"
Trouble jerks his tail back of course in a practiced motion. Unlike the little blue, he's -used- to scrapping with other flits....sometimes in not-so playful fashion either, as the scars on his body would betray. Nevertheless, he glides a short path and proceeds to land on Hynavu's bed now with a soft *plunk*.
Hynavu blinks up at the firelizard from diligent work. "Hello, ah ... it's Trouble, right, Resa?"
Resa gives Hyn a nod, "Aye.. and that he is!"
Trouble chrrrrs as he leans forward on all fours, eyes whirling brightly as he peers at what Hynavu is working on.
Uh oh.Slowly, against her will, Marion's head droops to the side. She jerks back up, only to start drooping again and land right up against Rees, sound asleep, with two flitters in her lap!
The flying bovines are now counterpointed with a sketch of Marion with the pair. The two subjects are on the same page, however. Eirekki chitters in annoyance when his scritches stop, but Duskwing curls in to stay.
Resa looks down into her lap, then chuckles softly as she sees Marion asleep once more! She moves flits out of the way and tucks her back into the cot to sleep.
Trouble twists his head from side to side, before turning and hopping along the bed behind Hynavu's back, then beginning to scamper -up- his back. Nope, he dosen't wait for invitations. Why should he? Little claws scrape and pull at the other's clothing until he reaches his shoulder, and from there the brown can finally see what he's doing more easily.
Hynavu blinks up at Trouble owlishly. "I'm sorry, did you want something?"
Trouble leans forward. Waaaaay forward, gripping the sketcher's shoulder tightly as he almost shifts his weight far enough to fall off. His attention completely on the sketch, until finally he straightens up with a snort.
Hynavu arches a brow at the brown. "Is it not to your liking, sir firelizard?" he asks drolly.
Trouble peers again for a moment, then makes some kinda rude noise. Or it could be mistaken for that. He flutters his wings once, as if to get his point across. The least it coulda been is about -food- or something.
Resa chuckles as she makes her way over towards Hyn's cot, pulling a
chair along for her to sit on. Frosty decides to sleep too,
curled up beside the sleeping girl.
