Solaria's
Solarium
Character Description:
A young woman stands before you. Often quiet and forever looking upwards,
she's usually looked over in a crowd. She can best be described as average.
Her 5'5" frame is of average build, not too thin and not too large. Her hair,
dark as the night's sky, falls straight as a board to mid back. It is often
times pushed behind her small ears when not hurriedly pulled back with some
odd piece of wherhide or string. Pale ivory skin shows that she is seldom
caught out during the daylight hours, her work keeping her up during the
night. With friends, she jokingly refers to her skin having a 'Moontan'.
Her eyes, however, are not average, their dark blue quite startling in her
pale face when she turns them on you. Below her eyes, an average nose and
pale pink lips dwell.
She wears a soft light blue shirt, the long sleeves flowing down to snug cuffs
at her wrists. Around the collar and cuffs, tiny stars and moons are stitched
in gold and silver threads. Her shirt is tucked into a dark blue skirt which
swirls around her feet. Several large pockets can be found at the hips of her
skirt, handy for placing things in she may need. Threaded through loops at
the waist of her skirt, a dark and light blue braided leather belt rests, the
buckle, a silver star. Her feet are incased in dark blue wherhide boots.
Character Background:
Daughter:Was it Fate? Perhaps Destiny? Whatever you want to call it, it had a hand in
Solaria's life, starting even before she was born. How so? Read on!It all started on a cool clear night. A very pregnant Naria was traveling with
her mate, Salernar to her family's home near Tillek from outside Crom. Naria
had been fussy all day long (read, nagging!) and finally had convinced her
mate to take her to see her mother. Then, much to Salernar's dismay, Naria
went into labor half way to Tillek. There they were on the road in the
middle of nowhere! Under the night's sky ablaze with a spectacular meteor
shower, Salernar delivered the baby girl. The parents were so happy, they
named her for the stars above them to remind them of that night...From an early age, Solaria was fascinated by the night's sky. Forever asking
questions -- What's those bright things in the sky Da? Do you think a dragon
could fly to Belior? -- her parents knew that some day she'd find someone who
could answer those questions better than they could. As the years went by,
Solaria spent more and more time looking up at the night's sky, dreaming
about the stars and what they may hold for Pern. Hearing about the StarCraft
Hall, Solaria made a few visits when in Crom with her parents, amazed that
she wasn't the only one out there dreaming of stars! Returning home was
hard, for she didn't want to leave the Hall and the few friends she'd made in
the short time she'd been there. Amazingly enough, on her next turnday, her
parents brought her back to the Hall, and told her if she wished, they'd
allow her to join. Did she wish?!?!? With a hug and a kiss to each of her
parents, she left, taking her place among all the new Apprentices, the
simple knot of blue and yellow meaning so much to her.Times passes quickly for Solaria. Promotions come and go, pranks, heartache,
and renewal. Friends leave and find lifemate's in the weyrs or get posted
elsewhere. Finally, /the/ day arrives.. the day that Solaria walks the table
to become Master! Afterwards, days pass in teaching classes, watching over
new apprentices, and being someone the apprentices can come to when they need
to talk. Though she seems to always have her head stuck in the clouds, she
is friendly and can usually be talked into helping anyone with just about
anything. For a few turns, Solaria was missing from around the Hall. Her return
prompted many questions. Who was she? Where was she? She's a Master? Some
rumors said she had left because of a broken heart while others hinted at a
baby and still others, a family emergency. Which was true? Only a few people
knew.A few Turns went by, and new friends were made, including that of
MasterStarSmith Darwin. A close friendship evolved, though it was kept secret
in the beginning, it was let out during the trip the hall made to Igen Weyr
to repair the farviewer there. Surprise could be seen on a few of the
apprentice's faces as the two Master's spent a great deal of time together,
talking, teasing, and laughing often. Reaching the weyr, tragedy struck in
the guise of a lame runner and a weyrling pair who popped in from ::between::
above. Darwin was left unconscious in a coma and paralyzed from the neck down.Solaria had had her suspicions on the trip to Igen, and a sevenday later, had
them confirmed by a healer - she was with child. But, how could that be?
She'd been told that she'd never bare a child again by the healer who had
taken care of her after a miscarriage. Perhaps, miracles do happen, for she
-was- with child. Excited, she waited for Darwin to awaken so she could tell
him the news - that he was to be a father.Waiting is hard, Solaria soon finds out. As the months pass, her belly grows,
and still, Darwin does not wake. Finally, one afternoon, whispered words are
heard from the cot - he wakes! Solaria is there to speak with him, telling
him of the accident, and then finally, of the soon to arrive child. He slips
back into unconsciousness again, and Solaria holds on to the fact that he did
wake!A few sevendays later, it is time, and the child lets her know. Luckily, she
is with Betha, a bluerider, in the caverns, who helps her into the infirmary.
Finding not the first healer around, Betha becomes midwife for Solaria's babe
demmands to be born -now-. With curses heard out into the caverns, they are
eventually joined by S'than, another bluerider from Telgar Wery, who'd been a
healer apprentice before Impressing. Last, they are joined by another, this
time Sol's friend, Journeyman Kyliea. A daughter is born - beautiful and
healthy. No sooner than they get the babe cleaned up and in her mother's
arms, a whisper is heard from Darwin's bed wondering just what is going on.
He is told by Betha and the others of his newest title - Father. Wanting to
hold his daughter, he is helped to sit up, and his daughter placed in his
motionless arms. Names are bantered around for the tiny little girl, no one
noticing Darwin's quick lose of energy untill he speaks..."Daria.. call her Daria...." Darwin breathes, then draws in a slow, rattling
breath, head sagging until his chin touches his chest. With a cry, three flits disappear ::between:: from above his bed, never to be
heard of again - a horrible sign that Master Darwin's death has truely
happened. Grief grips those present in the infirmary as the news rings out by
dragon and fire lizard to all of Pern - the MasterStarSmith is gone. Solaria
is left to tend to the last arrangements for him. Afterwards, with a short
visit to his parents to introduce them to their grandchild, she returns once
more to home... the StarCraft Hall.A few turns go by and her daughter grows into a happy smiling toddler. Solaria is strapped with much of the Craft business since Sidhra hides in her office, refusing to come out very often, telling everyone that Darwin will be back and that she's just watching over things till he does. Combined with outlandish proclamations, her reign as CraftMaster comes to an end one afternoon with an arrival of a group to the hall. The group is made of several Masters, Holders, and Weyrleaders. They file into the hall, and after pausing long enough to tbe pointed towards the Master Starsmith's office, enters and closes the door firmly behind them. A short time later, it's opened and a request sent for Master Solaria to join them. She's fetched from class, and the waiting begins
again. Before long, the group emerges from behind closed doors. Sidhra announces her
immediate retirement, naming Solaria to be her replacement before she
disappears back into the office. The news seems to be true for Master Solaria
is seen to sport a new knot...And now, the fun begins as she takes over as MasterStarsmith of Pern...
Pets:Daria (NPC)
at 3 Turns...
A happy toddler greets you with a smile, bubbling laughter often accompanying
her every tottering footstep. Dark blond ringlets spring free of the tails
her mother has tried to capture them in, surrounding her chubby face with
softening curls. A cute button nose is dusted with freckles above small
rosebud mouth, often found with a thumb stuck within. Dark blue eyes watch
the world curiously, mischief found easily enough to keep her poor mother
running after her.
She wears a small tunic, it's light blue covered with stars in bright
cheerfull yellow. Navy trous cover her legs, knees faded from crawling along
the floor. The tiniest of wherhide boots fit her feet, ready to take her
places.
Logs:Perezoso
This mass of sleekly glimmering midnight fur looks more like a mountain of
darkness than a feline, and is about as mobile. Yet every once in a while,
the tip of a smokey grey tail twitches, or copper eyes open lazily to a
squint to peer resentfully at some interruption, whether real or imagined,
and give away that this is, indeed, a living creature, rather than a statue
of voluptuous feline contentment. She wears a collar of blue and yellow from
which a tag hangs: 'Perezoso' on one side and on the other, ' Return to
Solaira if lost.'Autumn:
Demanding blue eyes peer up from the stark whiteness that shapes like a mask
on a backdrop of umber ... the first of many leafish splotches - cream,
reddish-brown, midnight - that migrate down short fur of snowy hue, the last
color predominating. The plumpness of ease begins to hint at his stomach
without quite being definite. A fluffy plume of voluminous tail bobbles
expressively behind him, whether he is mincing along or at rest. He wears a
collar of blue and yellow from which a tag hangs: 'Autumn' on one side and on
the other, ' Return to Solaira if lost.'
Whipcord:
Rich mud is daubed in vivid grass-green, sweeping 'cross wide wings' length to
bony shoulders. Whip-thin, hide is stretched taut betwixt 'spars and 'ridges,
leading up to mica-touched head. Razor-keen intelligence shines from
protruding eyes, with a wit to match; sharp tongued and bright-humored, a
direct contrast to the land that birthed him. Ebon talons gleam, though the
tips are blunted, more used to use as utensils rather than weapons.
He bears two bands around his left hind leg. The first is of the bright yellow
and dark blue of the StarCraft and the other band is the yellow and light
blue of Crom Hold.
Tumbleweed
Little, lithe and lean, this sand- and tumbleweed-colored brown fire-lizard is
built for stealth and speed. His tail, long and thin, is quicker than the
eye, often found looped around something or other. Feet are delicate and
agile, ending in well-honed talons; his muzzle is sharp, beneath the rakish
tilt of his brow. His wings are a little tiny even for his size, easily
folded neatly against his side till they nearly disappear.
He bears two bands around his left hind leg. The first is of the bright yellow
and dark blue of the StarCraft and the other band is the yellow and light
blue of Crom Hold.
Gweenie
Smaller than usual, this delicate and fragile creature hums with pure energy,
always moving, never still. Verdancy clings like a cloak, enfolding her
within it's depths before allowing peeks of a soft dappled yellow-green to be
seen - the color highlighting her muzzle and easing down her neck before it's
lost within the darkness beyond. Dark forest clings to her hide before
melting away to reveal the lighter yellow-green at paws and mid-way down her
tail. Wingsails are outlined, shown off to perfection, by the darker green, a
surprising rainbow of color swirling across their length.
She bears two bands around her left hind leg. The first is of the bright
yellow and dark blue of the StarCraft and the other band is the yellow and
light blue of Crom Hold.
Bwonie
Sinfully rich chocolate flows over the hide of this flit, sticky sweet as it
meets gooey caramel drizzled over headknobs, down his back and left to drip
down his legs. A bit of melted marshmellow swirls within the darkness, adding
a bit of cream froth to joints and wingsails. Plump is he, for who wants to
watch their waistline when there's sweets about to try?
He bears two bands around his left hind leg. The first is of the bright yellow
and dark blue of the StarCraft and the other band is the yellow and light
blue of Crom Hold.
Aeneus
Sparkling bronze ripples across the hidden muscles of this firelizard,
wavering in its intensity as light tiptoes across his hide. Gold dust sheens
the filigreed copper tracings across his wings which shadow his sleek form
beneath a canopy of honeyed-bronze. Shiny ebon talons grace his paws, always
kept razor sharp. With his large wings tucked against his back and his long
tail curled around him, he sits - calmly, quietly - preferring to watch the
world move around him.
He bears two bands around his left hind leg. The first is of the bright yellow
and dark blue of the StarCraft and the other band is the yellow and light
blue of Crom Hold.
